The Cévennes National Park is France’s only mid-mountain national park. Located across three departments (Gard, Ardèche and Lozère), it encompasses 152 municipalities and covers no less than 268,350 hectares in total. The park comprises two different areas: the core (a regulated and protected area) and the buffer zone. One of the unique features of this park is that it is home to permanent residents. Marked by history and human activity, the park offers a variety of landscapes, each with its own unique character. It boasts an extremely rich biodiversity that will delight nature lovers. The park’s rich and unspoilt landscapes include rivers, mountains and gorges. It is a fascinating site for nature lovers thanks to its diverse flora and fauna. The park is now listed as a ‘world biosphere reserve’ by UNESCO. Indeed, this magnificent site has always maintained a good balance between nature and human development, with a view to protecting its environment.

  • The Tarn and Jonte Gorges
    Visitors marvel at the breathtaking landscapes offered by these little gems of the park. Make the most of this incredible natural setting, either on foot along the edge of the gorges or by kayak along the river.
  • The granite massif of Mont Lozère
    This massif is the highest point in the park. The granite and limestone rocks give the landscape a truly unique character.
  • The Chaos of Nîmes-le-Vieux
    Make way for an unusual atmosphere created by strange dolomites. Explore the mysterious world of this site along an educational trail.
  • The Armand Cave
    This cave contains several hundred stalagmites, including one of the largest ever discovered to date.
  • Tasting
    While the Cévennes National Park is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, it also offers delicious local produce. Why not take advantage of your stay to try some local culinary specialities? For example, you will find excellent charcuterie, honey and péladron (goat’s cheese). As for typical dishes, you can also try the traditional chestnut soup called Bajana.

  • Sports activities
    • Randonnée : le parc des Cévennes est idéal pour la randonnée et regorge de sentiers à parcourir. Pour les randonneurs expérimentés, vous trouverez de beaux circuits comme le « Tour des Cévennes » de 130 km (GR67)
    • Canyoning : les canyons et les rivières du parc permettent des activités aquatiques à sensations fortes, comme du canyoning par exemple.
    • Via Ferrata: the park’s landscape features numerous slopes and canyons. If you’re not afraid of heights, treat yourself to a Via Ferrata excursion (in Florac, for example).
  • Cultural activities
    There are various museums and historical sites to visit in the Cévennes National Park. In Florac Castle, you will find the famous Maison du Parc, which offers documentation and permanent exhibitions. Finally, if you would like to learn more about the history, art and culture of the Cévennes, visit the Musée Cévenol in Le Vigan and the Musée des Vallées Cévenoles in St-Jean du Gard.
